WELCOME TO THE PARISH OF SKETTY
What is Contemplative Prayer?
Contemplative Prayer gives us the opportunity to come apart with others for an hour, and to be still and focus on God in the silence.
It is a time to spend simply ‘being’ in His presence and letting Him talk to us!
However.many find silence difficult and the thought of sitting quietly for ten to fifteen
minutes off putting.
Let me put your minds at rest, this is what happens in our group:
We enter the room in silence. The room is dark lit only by candles.
We find a seat and make ourselves comfortable while acknowledging each other with
a simple nod of our heads.
When all are present, we listen to some relaxing music to lead us into prayer.
After this, I introduce the focus for our thoughts for that day. It may be an object,
a meditation, a video, a picture a poem or a Bible passage.
Music will then help us to focus our thoughts before we share them with God.
( At any time, if the silence gets too much for us, we can go and make ourselves a
The actual period of complete silence will be for fifteen minutes, less if beginners
are present and extended only if all there are experienced in this way of praying.)
Music will lead us out of silence.
It will then be time to chat over refreshments or to simply leave if you wish to
Please think about sharing in this experience especially during Advent and Lent
and making it a part of our preparations before major festivals.
I will very much appreciate your company. and support.
