MONEY
Imagine: The Church Treasurer has a nightmare.. The Angel Gabriel arrives to audit the Church finances,
but instead of seeing if the books add up, keeps asking about how the money is raised and what it
is used for. How would your Church come out of that sort of audit?
A Bible Passage: Matthew 25:14-
Some questions:
1. Why are people so obsessed with money and the making of money? Have church-
fashion?
What effects does it have?
2. “Nowhere can we find the food for which our souls cry out, but here, Lord, at your table.” (prayer before the
Peace)
True? – how?
3. How do you feel about the unequal amounts given to different servants (Mt 25:14,15) ? Is this realistic in
your experience?
4. The slaves trade with wealth not their own. What do you have “on loan”? What do you think of as yours by
right?

5. The Master seems to see the money and trading as a training or test for something else; is this your
attitude? The Master seems less concerned with the profit than the process; discuss this attitude.
6. The slave given just one talent is treated harshly (v24-
understand? What do you learn?
7. An atheist investment banker says to you, “So what difference does Christian faith make to the way you
handle money?” Answer?

money. Ethical investment is becoming more and more popular and is available for individuals and groups.
