PARISH PRAYER

Prayer permeates the whole of our parish life. While some is visible there is

much that is hidden.

It is visible in our organised services in set prayers and liturgy and at the

beginning and at the end of our meetings.

It is seen in our House groups and is as much a part of those groups as is

discussion, study and sharing.

As individuals we have our own patterns of prayer and while some set aside

some time during the day for this, others see prayer as simply sharing their

Day with God as one would share with a close friend.

There have also been different styles of prayer groups over the years.

There have been groups concentrating on care for the sick and for healing.

There have been groups for general prayers and that have chosen to use

extemporary prayer. This is prayer from the heart and not written down.

There has been a ‘Contemplative prayer’ group which was led by Sister Marian

and concentrated on the use of silence and, ‘listening’ to God and is still

available on the last Friday of the month, by request.

There is the Cytun Prayer Circle whose members receive a monthly list of

requests  for prayer from the churches of all denominations in the Sketty

area and who try to pray where they are at the same time.

There is also ‘prayer in action’! This can be clearly seen being performed by

those who show their concern for others in the way they live their lives and

reflect God’s love for those around them.

On the table at the back of the church, is a book where requests for prayer

can be written or we can give our request in confidence to members of the

parish staff. Sister Marian too would be pleased to be asked to

remember you during her daily offices.

          MATTHEW 21: 13 (N. L. B.)

“MY temple will be called a house of prayer.”

1 CORINTHIANS 3:17

For God’s temple is holy, and you Christians

are that temple.
